Delivering numerical geotechnical solutions

Ryan Kemp
Principal Geotechnical Engineer

Ryan has over 25 years of combined experience across geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics, earthworks, and construction support.

He is a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with Engineers Australia and a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ). Ryan is the Director and Principal Geotechnical Engineer at Kemp Geotechnical Consulting Pty Ltd and has worked across mining, residential, commercial, industrial, education, transport, infrastructure, energy, pipelines, and telecommunications projects.

Ryan began his career in 1998 in soil and materials testing, holding a Certificate IV in Materials Testing. He worked in materials testing until 2002, then moved into an Engineering Services Technician and Driller role, gaining field experience while completing his engineering studies. In 2006, he joined the geotechnical engineering team at Bowler Geotechnical.

He has completed formal studies in Civil Engineering and Business Management, with a focus on leadership and management. His work covers geotechnical investigations, numerical modelling, permanent and temporary works design, construction monitoring, materials testing, and technical advisory roles.

At Kemp Geotechnical Consulting, Ryan applies this experience across all stages of a project, from investigation through to design and construction support.

Numerical modelling to support practical design decisions.

Numerical modelling is used to assess ground and structural behaviour and to support design decisions on complex sites.

Our approach is based on available data, established engineering methods, and engineering judgement. The aim is to understand likely ground behaviour, identify key risks, and avoid unnecessary conservatism.

Numerical modelling is used alongside conventional geotechnical assessments to inform design and construction decisions.

Kemp Geotechnical Consulting provides geotechnical services from investigation through to design and construction support. Services include:

  • Geotechnical investigations, interpretation, analysis, and reporting

  • Slope stability analysis and modelling

  • Landslide susceptibility and risk assessment

  • Construction and remediation advice for civil works

  • Construction support and technical advice

  • Numerical modelling

  • Shaft analysis and design
